A PC MAG article on the World cup brings to light some amazing social media statistics for the World Cup craze. A whopping 3.6 billion people are expected to watch 64 matches over 32 days, and talk about it on social media.
Some of the outstanding stats include:
- The World Cup is expected to be no different. Based on prominent hashtags—#WorldCup, #Brazil2014, #Brazil—Twitter counted more than 350,000 tweets per day about the competition.
- Filtered photo service Instagram had 236,860 World Cup-related photos posted over a five-day period. Some of which, undoubtedly, from Portugal national team captain Cristiano Ronaldo, Australian player Tim Cahill, Spanish footballer David Villa, and New Jersey native Tim Howard.
- The official FIFA World Cup handle, boasts 1.45 million followers.
